Lets say you found my first post and I have convinced you to give Logseq a try. The next thing that you probably need to is to find a solution to get all your notes synced across all your devices.

Understand your needs

I want to take notes when I am at at the office, when I go to the field (I log all my field visits by taking notes and photos - if you work in any industry that requires you to track cost and progress you probably understand why), when I am watching an online course or youtube video, if I have a thought when I am at the bathroom (am I the only one that like to think there?), ...

I need a solution that allows me to take notes anywhere.

I am 99% sure that the solution that I am going to present to you is going to work for your needs. Why? Because the list of device that I have currently synced is everything but homogeneous:

  • A work laptop with Windows where I obviously do not have admin access
  • A personal laptop with Windows
  • A personal android phone (a 4 year old OnePlus 6T)
  • An iPad Pro (my wife is the best, I know)

The options (just one)

I could start talking about the different workarounds that you could do to try to sync for free all the above-mentioned devices but:

  • There is already a pretty well explained post here
  • I will be making the same mistake that I made when I was using Notion, a.k.a. spending more time building the system that actually using it.
  • The solution costs less than a coffee a month ($5). Thats good enough so it does not hurt me but it also a good reminder to make use it eveytime I see it hit my bank account.

Logseq sync

I could write a post with a step-by step-guide (nasty photos of my working on my devices could be added) but I believe that your time is valuable so I will go over the main ones:

  • Get all your logseq notes in one place, a.k.a your master device (in my case it was my personal laptop)
  • Create an account in opencollective here
  • Follow the steps laid out in this link
  • Sign in your master device and wait for the cloud to turn green
  • Install logseq in your other devices and wait for the cloud on the upper right corner to turn green

There is only one limitation that you should take into account: the sync system works flawlessly for me but its not instant (the waiting for the cloud to turn green). How that affects me? I just need to remember to open logseq on my phone before I go to a field visit and when I come back to make sure that I don't mess any of the notes that I take on my laptop.

Whats next

So we already know what software we are going to use and how to make the information available on all our devices. Look at this beautiful graph below:

In my next post, I will explain a very simple, frictionless method that I use to take all my notes so I dont have to be looking at where I put them but I dont need to spend hours to recover them if I want to. Stay tuned.
